Functional mushrooms are varieties known for their health-enhancing properties. As opposed to culinary mushrooms which are generally used for their delectablity purposes and psychedelic mushrooms which are used for...well, you know. Functional mushrooms contain bioactive compounds such as but not limited to beta-glucans, hericenones, cordycepin, ganoderic acid etc. which are thought to support cognitive health, energy and immunity respectively, distinguishing them from ordinary mushrooms. Generally functional mushrooms have both a long history of use in cultures sometimes around the globe and also have modern scientific studies backing their claims.
